I do this regularly on my oven door seal, but don't know about using it on the oven floor piece. Around the door is just season it like a cast iron pan. When it needs it, I wipe a very thin amount of Crisco or vegetable oil on the metal after I have used the oven and the metal is still warm. Wipe off any excess, and you're good to go.

I learn something new almost every day on this board! Thanks for sharing this tidbit. I'm seasoning my oven door next time I bake.

We were told that the cast iron bottom of oven floor and around the oven door should be surface oiled to maintain them. Does anyone do this and if you do, what do you use? Particularly on the oven floor, it is the side exposed to the gas flame so you can't use just anything, right?
